I was kind of lukewarm on this one until about the last third. The narrative style and the circumstances in which Al ended up in Japan were both clever and amusing, but Al was pretty annoying in the middle third. The ending is an INTENSE CLIFFHANGER, which I was not expecting and do not care for, so now I have to stop by the bookstore today to get the second one and if it’s out of stock so help me god.
