An engaging account of each of the five women thought to be the victims of Jack the Ripper. A lot of the information about these women (even including where they were born or their true names) is missing or not verifiable. Rubenhold does a brilliant job of explaining the known and the unknown, and paints a very vivid picture of what life was probably like for these women.

The conclusion of this book is particularly powerful. Rubenhold examines how we have glorified Jack the Ripper and other famous serial killers while ignoring the most important stories; the stories of those who lost their lives. I would recommend this book to any fan of true crime, it is certainly food for thought.
