Until the Road Ends by Phil Earle
3.5
Actual rating 3.5/5
Bullet review:
+A perilous journey for our characters to embark on.
+Genuine moments between our main trio and the main character and his human.
-This one really isn't breaking any new ground as far as "group of animals travels far to get to humans" type of stories (like, for example, The Incredible Journey) go. It's a pretty generic execution of the concept.
-Similarly, the characters are a bit too simple and one-note for me to be invested in them or genuinely care about their quest. The main characters are just kind of stereotypical archetypes. "Heroic dog" and "somewhat selfish and arrogant cat" stereotypes can be found in xenofiction going back ages. And this book really didn't do a new take on these character archetypes. Bomber the pigeon was okay, but again I wasn't too invested in his character.
