The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss
5.0
The storytelling in this book is absolutely incredible! The language is so perfect for every line and it flows together in such a seamless way that you can see everything like a vivid picture in your head. He mentions in the 10th Anniversary edition authors notes that he wanted to make a story that wasn’t like a movie set that crumbles if you turn and look a certain way and he absolutely achieved that. There were no moments where I felt like it wasn’t fleshed out enough or he didn’t consider certain things like language, money, traveling distance, etc. His characters are incredibly lifelike and compelling including his female characters which is a MUST. Also, I thought it was interesting to be using flashback as a means to tell the whole story while maintaining a loose narrative in the present. It makes you wonder how the little bits and pieces you see in the real present moment will all resolve in the end. The two different time settings were incredibly distinct from one another but you still lost yourself in the story that was being told at the time. If you were in the inn with Kote, Bast, and the Chronicler or Kvothe and his cast of characters set in the past you were completely immersed in that moment. Again, incredible storytelling that I will hold close to my heart forever.
