The Narrow Road to the Deep North by Richard Flanagan

5.0

All I can say is this book leaves a profound impact. I can't put it into words easily as there are so many emotions, questions, thoughts and understandings contained in this one book; it is in actuality multiple stories, not just one. Yes, it is extremely graphic, written with the absence of some normal writing conventions, and chops and changes time frames and perspectives but I didn't feel this detracted from it at all, in fact I find it hard to imagine it written as well in any other way. It's not a conventional story, so therefore it isn't written like one. This is a book that will stick with you for a long time in one way or another.
