Super enjoyable read despite the incredibly depressing themes. Would have easily read 200+ pages more which is saying something considering its already 500 pages long.
The setting is fantastic, the characterisations and events are well done and engrossing. I also learnt alot from this book, there's little bits of real history thrown in here or there and I found myself going on google rabbit hole searches more than once. The only reasons this isn't rated higher, is that the first third of the book can feel a bit slow and meandering at points, plus the occasional lack of descriptive writing can prevent being really sucked into the world. But mainly it's the super heavy handed and on the nose message of the book that the author is shoving down your throat every 5 pages, yes I get colonialism and racism are bad, this book might have been more groundbreaking if it was released 50 years ago, but to a modern audience it's pretty much speaking to the choir; a very long speech that is.
