A Cookbook Conspiracy by Kate Carlisle
4.0
A celebrity chef is murdered and Brooklyn's sister, Savannah, is a prime suspect, as are a number of her friends from culinary school days. At the time of the murder a valuable old cookbook is stolen which is as troubling to Brooklyn as the murder. Her partner, Derek, notices a code in the photocopies she had made of the cookbook and calls in his brother to see if there is a connection.
I love the characters in this series, but Brooklyn can be a bit annoying which is why I didn't give the book 5 stars. For several books now she has been brooding over her tendency to find dead bodies, and it's frankly getting a bit old. Other characters in mysteries are always tumbling over bodies and they just get on with it. She's also perpetually insecure about her relationship with Derek which is getting old as well. I know the author is just trying to make her seem more human, but I prefer mysteries where we don't have to focus on the messy emotions and can just get on with the investigations.
