wow was this book incredible. i have so many thoughts yet no words to describe them. this book was dark, heart wrenching, tense, tragic, and adventurous. the different parts of this book give off many different feelings and will hook you into rin’s journey. i felt so many emotions throughout this book and i just couldnt get enough.
the book has dark and very real events, like genocide, war and colonialism, that i think were written well and really made you feel how heavy they were. it showed the effects and tragedies of colonialism and war. as well as genocide which i dont have the exact words to describe how the characters and the country’s people were effected by it.
the characters in this book are also complex and flawed with their own motives and experiences that have formed them. rin’s character is especially well written and she feels so real. shes flawed, she’s angry and she has very real emotions as she goes on her journey. sometimes she made me mad but you can get why she feels or does something that you cant stay mad at her or even dislike her (at least for me.) altan’s character is also incredibly written and his motives are so clear as he carries his grief and anger that derive from his experiences and the anger from his people and his god. he is very complex and i wish i had the words to fully describe it.
i truly loved this book and i wish i finished this when i first started this book. i truly recommend this book to everyone, it is so incredible.
