I had to stop reading this one for about 3 weeks due to my major's readings and maybe that ruined it for me. The first half was really enjoyable and easy to read and the second half... well I just wanted it to end. It is really different from the movie regarding the character's building, backstory and even side stories. Even though this had so much potential for me to love it more than I did the movie, I'm biased. My biggest pet peeve during this reading was Howl's rude character and I think that really was the biggest deal breaker for me regarding the "movie or book" question.
