Under the Henfluence: Inside the World of Backyard Chickens and the People Who Love Them by Tove Danovich

Overall, I enjoyed this and learned some things about caring for chickens and the chicken industry at large! I do take slight issue with the take in this book being "chickens are friends/pets, not food" (which reads very "vegetarianism/veganism is the answer to all of our problems"), but I have been an advocate for 10+ years for local food systems that incorporate humanely and pastured raised meats, and I'm not really going to change my mind about that! This book definitely provides some solid reasons why, if you do choose to eat meat (and eggs!), you should purchase them from someone locally, which I appreciated (particularly eggs: if you know anyone with backyard chickens, they would love nothing more than for you to want some of their eggs)
I do think for anyone who already has backyard chickens, who wants to have them (hopefully this book gives me the push I need to advance my goal of chicken caregiving!), or just wants to know more about these curious creatures this is worth a read!
