I was thinking about books I've read and this came to mind and I must be honest I'm ashamed that it took me so long to think of it! It's one I read at about 10 years of age and it made a big impact on my imagination and creates feelings of nostalgia in me.

The story revolves around Chas McGill and his discovery of a crashed Luftwaffe plane and it's machine gun.
