2.5
2.5 stars. It started off eerie, if not outright creepy. Honestly in the beginning I was getting major Midsommar vibes. And then it… went nowhere. What was all this intriguing information you’re given all the potential suspenseful plot lines? Don’t know, most of it will just disappear before the 40% mark. If you opened the book in the middle, you’d be reading pretty average grocery store adult fiction, not a bad way to pass an afternoon, but you’re probably not going to be recommending it to your friends.
The book never recovered. The ending was messy, and in trying to draw mildly logical motivations for what was going on, it just… lost anything it still had going for it. I wound up just shaking my head about most of the revelations which made varying levels of not much sense.

Graphic: Animal cruelty and Animal death
Moderate: Kidnapping
Minor: Sexual assault and Toxic relationship
