I liked this book, but at the same time I feel like I’m doing something wrong by liking this book (does that make sense?)
I’d already enjoyed Stôrmland in the few appearances he made in Chasing the Wild, so I was very interested in discovering his story. The first thing I’m happy about is that I continued to enjoy the grumpy cowboy in this book. The second thing I’m happy about is that I really liked Briar too—although I’m sorry to say that, but for me the best interactions are still those between Storm and Beau.
The ‘illicit’ nature of Storm and Briar’s relationship is something I could accept in the sense that they don’t share any blood ties and have had a very distant relationship over the course of their lives. However, the repeated use of the words uncle and niece as their relationship changed form was something that left me with a slight feeling of unease every time I saw those words. I think I would have liked to have seen less of these words once their relationship had moved to the next stage.
Still, Braving the Storm is a book I enjoyed and once again I found Elliott Rose’s writing style to be quite enjoyable.
I’ll continue my reading in the Crimson Ridge universe with Bouquets and Buckles.
