The Winter of the Witch by Katherine Arden

5.0

Wow, I surprised myself by really enjoying this series. Arden's writing is truely spectacular, and does not let up for one second!

Vasya is in my top five favorite main characters. She is really tested in this book, and she comes out stronger for it. This whole book is dedicated to her processing, accepting, and learning to live with the terrible situations she experiences. I loved the relationship between her and Morozko. It felt like a genuine depiction of what true love could be. Their relationship was made up of entirely loving each other for who the other is, and did not require any ownership or dependency. Vasya was profoundly strong on her own. Morozko supported her, but she had no need of him. I loved the balance Arden created between them.

I loved that the ending explored what good and evil can look like. It felt like a satisfying way to wrap up the series. The conclusion was heartfelt and a perfect way to wrap up what has been a gorgeous tale!
