Dragon and Thief by Timothy Zahn

I'm in love!

Holy cow! This book lets my imagination go wild. Why? Because Draycos is a dragon (first *SQUEEEE*) and in order to survive he needs a host to carry him. Carry him on their skin like a living, speaking, thinking tattoo. *faints after SQUEEEING so much that the air ran out* Just - wow!

While the plot itself (alien race looking for a new planet because their are fleeing an evil enemy and enemy got their first; boy being accused of a crime he didn't commit and alien + boy try to clear the name of the boy) wasn't a "new" thing it still was so captivating and thrilling to read.

I love Jack and Draycos and their backstory. I love that while they kind of trust each other they also kind of don't do it to a 100 % (though, this is more on the side of Jack when he ponders if Draycos maybe has more motives than he says/lets on). I love that when Draycos takes an unwilling/not knowing Jack as a host that Jack panics and tries to get rid of Draycos, only calms down after a while and then Draycos is able to explain everything.

I'm in love with the concept of this symbiosis and that Draycos lives as a "tattoo" on Jack's skin and is able to talk with Jack, sees and hears the surrounding (watching someones back gets a very new meaning here) and is able to just jump off Jack's skin again if there is danger or Draycos just wants to get off. ♥

Also, neither Jack nor Draycos are perfect characters. They have flaws. They have doubts. They are scared and angry and stubborn and just - I really like them!

I love that there are some things hinted at - like the culture of the K'da and Shontine (the race of Draycos former host), the things that are happening in Jack's part of the galaxy, the character development of Jack and maybe Dracos - I'm so looking forward to read about them!
