My primary takeaway is, as with most of tumblr, how much of the book did not make it into pop culture consciousness. It’s a remarkably complex work–intentionally or no, Mina has as much interiority as the male characters, and there’s just generally a LOT going on, that nevertheless largely manages to wrap up neatly.

Otoh, orientalism. Sigh.
