I read the first book in this series last year and really liked it! So I hoped this book would have been as good or even better than the first! However I have to admit I was disappointed and give this book a 3/5 stars!
One of the reasons I took stars off was because of the plot, I felt the romance arc was the main focus instead of Denazen which took a back seat! The romance part was just ridiculous, most of it was overcoming obstacles in Dez and Kale’s relationship. And it was silly things, like Dez’s jealousy and Alex being in the way! I much preferred the smaller plot of the Denazen which had great action scenes and plot twists! If the author had made the Denazen arc the main focus instead of the romance, I would have liked this book so much more! However there was still so much humour in this book, seriously I was cracking up on almost every page and if I highlighted every funny quote there was, I’d have the whole book hightlighted!
The characters were another reason for the low rating! I could not connect with Dez at all for most of this novel, I didn’t agree with any the decisions she made and I felt she was naïve about most things or jumped to conclusions a lot! Then there was the new characters. Let’s start with Jade, she was so one-dimensional that she just wasn’t realistic and likeable! However I did like the twins that were introduced, they added a fresh tone to the story and I feel they will be a major part in the next books! As for the rest of the characters, still loved most of them, mostly Kale though! He’s a sweetheart!
Overall this book was okay for me, it was humerous and quick but the plot and the characters lacked for me! I will be continuing with this series though!
