Lady Midnight by Cassandra Clare

5.0

SPOILER FREE

This was even better than I thought it would be!! I am a huge fan of Cassie Clare and the Shadow World, so it was a little scary going into this book because I didn’t know if this would break the streak, if I would dislike it, even a little a bit. Fortunately, this book DELIVERED!

I love all the characters so so much and my heart aches for all the tragedy they have had to face, before and during this book. I enjoyed the involvement of necromancy (not a spoiler, introduced early on), which is a magic that always provides interesting conflicts in story telling. Also, knowing the characters before going into the series set the stage for a unique experience, for sure. The beginning was slow but allowed the reader to get to know the characters in a generally natural and quiet setting, which is a great time for characterization and relationship development. This series is dripping with angst, unsurprisingly since this is Cassandra Clare, and I’ll admit that I wasn’t sure if all the drama was entirely NECESSARY, at first. But then... oooooh, but then.

I am beyond nervous but also insanely excited for what’s to come. Now I must depart. Lord of Shadows awaits.
