The Wisdom of Crowds by Joe Abercrombie

5.0

4,5/5
It has taken me a year to read the whole First Law series by Joe Abercrombie, which includes 10 books: a trilogy, three standalones, a short story collection and another trilogy. And what a year it’s been! I was unsure whether grimdark fantasy would be my kind of thing, but the characters Abercrombie has created are so fascinating I needed to know all I could about them. He has studied psychology and it really shows.

The last trilogy, (for now, it certainly feels like there could be more books in the future), ended up being my favorite part of the whole series. I loved seeing how the world steps into the industrial age and how characters and events from the earlier books reappear. I honestly don’t think I’ve been this immersed in a fantasy world since Harry Potter. Obviously I’ve read other fantastic books in between, but such obsession for a long book series is rare to come across. I want to start reading Robin Hobb’s books at some point, and those have similar potential.
