Move Your DNA: Restore Your Health Through Natural Movement, 2nd Edition by Katy Bowman

challenging informative inspiring fast-paced

4.0

I want to open by saying I have several problems with this book and I bought a copy, so you know you’re in for a treat.
Bowman is best when talking about a) the physiological mechanisms behind why our bodies so often are tight and sore and b) the exercises to fix this. She is worst when trying to argue that the lifestyle of pre-agricultural humans and modern day hunter-gatherers set them up to avoid joint issues and inflexibility.
Which. I would need to see a lot more research on. A quick google tells me that the Hazda have a significantly shorter life expectancy than USAmericans, and most of the long term effects of joint misuse turn up…late in life. In other words, who’s to say that an 80 yr old hunter-gatherer would have fewer joint issues than an 80 yr old office worker?
HOWEVER, I do have the ever popular hip flexibility/shoulder stiffness/lower back pain concerns, and several of the stretches have already helped. So there’s that.
