Marvelous Maravilloso: Me and My Beautiful Family by Carrie Lara, Christine Battuz

5.0

Marvelous Maravilloso by Carrie Lara is about a young girl exploring and accepting color as part of her identity and the identity of her mixed-race family. Lara incorporates both Spanish and English into her story just as a young child would in their day to day activities. The illustrations are absolutely beautiful and full of color. There are also additional resources in the back of the book explaining how children perceive color, race, and identity as well as suggestions for how to approach situations where a child may question why people look different. Overall, this is a wonderful book with a beautiful message.
