Lincoln in the Bardo by George Saunders

5.0

One of the most imaginative books I've ever read. It's got an over-arching story of the soul of Abe Lincoln's son as he travels from life to death, but I found the most engaging parts of the book were the little vignettes of life - sometimes just a page, sometimes just a line or two - that clearly outlined some bit of life's minutiae in alternately funny and heartbreaking prose. It's a vivid picture, and I loved the two main narrators (Bevins and Vollman).
