4.0
i'm really good at morse code, now!
this was a WILD ride - Kliewer creates a world that is so vast, and readers only see the tiniest bit of it. it's as though we're watching it all unfold through the crack of a door.
note: some readers will like this, and others will have a billion and one questions (i think i fall into both categories)
i'm not sure where it ranks on my spooky scale, because i determined the premise pretty early on.
i would say, if you're a dr who fan (which is probably why i caught on so quickly), think of the first time you watched the spookiest dr who episode. that's about where it ranks for me.
i can't tell you enough how i enjoyed the premise and am hoping beyond hope for a sequel, maybe with another family, in another house? crossover event, pls, Marcus!
it's such a fast read, which is why, even if you don't do spooks, it's actually pretty accessible. i finished it in a little over two hours!
3.75 or so stars, rounded up! i would have read a much longer book, but as it is, i would love to see a sequel
