I LOVED THIS STORY SO MUCH!!! From start to finish I wanted to cheer for and fight for April and Marcus. Both characters have dealt with feelings of not being good enough that have always weighed heavily on each of them. Neither one believes anyone could want or love all of them.
Marcus, the son of two teachers, was always left feeling like he could never live up to his parent's expectations. No matter how hard he worked, in school or his career, his parents never seemed to be proud of him or his accomplishments. Instead of supporting and cheering on their son, they've actually written articles about their strong dislike of the long-running show he's on because the writing greatly differs from the material it's originally based on.
Growing up April was always made to feel like a disappointment to her parents because she wasn't small and fit. Her father pretty much ignored her existence and her mother constantly tried to coax her into wearing looser clothes or dieting. April know's her mother loves her but she isn't sure how much more criticism she can take about her weight from someone who should love and support her unconditionally.
I love that there are snippets of fanfic as well as "scripts" from different projects Marcus has worked on. How there will be a brief mention or thought of something Marcus has worked on before and then the next chapter will start with a scene from the project.
April is written so wonderfully, even with her doubts and insecurities she finally finds the courage to take steps towards being herself in all aspects of her life. The idea of no longer letting others dictate your life is both wonderful and terrifying all at the same time.
This book was such a fun, sweet, and romantic read that had me laughing and sometimes crying along with the characters. I can't wait to read more of Olivia's catalog and meet more of her wonderfully crafted characters!
