I've read a couple of holiday romances from this author that I really enjoyed, but the rest of her catalogue seems mainly to romantic suspense series with loads of books. Seeing as how I wasn't sure where to start, I thought this novella in a multi-author series might be a good place to try. However, this book appears to be tied in to another series the author has on the go, and I found it to be very choppy and disjointed. I almost DNFed at one point, but since I was past 60% and it's not long to start with, I carried on.
Things would just . . . happen, and I wouldn't really understand why. I think one or two moments like that can be effective, if you eventually explain or the randomness starts to resolve into clues or ties back in, but that didn't happen here. I don't even know if expanding the book's length would have helped here, it was just a bit of a mess, with characters we don't know or get to understand very well.
