Let’s talk about the highlight of this DNF for me: that endpaper map. It’s beautiful. Rhys Davies, ya done good. 

Other things of note in the 79 pages that I read: this has pretty large font. Overly large? Jury’s still out on that one, but it should be noted that this is not a complaint, merely an observation. 

But yeah, other than that, this just wasn’t happening for me. Not only was I not in the mood for a fast-paced and plot driven story, but the pirates are fully entrenched in a pre-established world that I am not familiar with at all. Like the characters feel like they’re overly familiar and it’s weird and I don’t like it. 

I don’t know what kinda mood I’m in but it’s bitter and unrepentant at its core and this seems like it won’t complement that at all so yeah, I’m abandoning ship while I still can.
