Wayward Lives, Beautiful Experiments: Intimate Histories of Social Upheaval by Saidiya Hartman

4.0

A beautiful accomplishment, a thrilling provocation. This book is the unruly, queer, anarchist little sister to Wilkerson's Warmth of Other Suns, and it brings to life the myriad creative interventions and rebellious modalities brought to fashioning lives in the afterlife of slavery. It did smack slightly celebratory where I'd swing seething, but I know Hartmans work well enough to doubt she meant it that way. Bravo.
