"Courage takes only a second to become foolishness"
If I'm being honest, it took me a little while to get into this book; I wasn't sure at first exactly what was going on besides your typical mafia drama. By the middle of the book though, I was hooked, and now I'm wondering what in the world is going on! I picked up four more books in the Dark Verse series and cannot wait to have some of my questions answered.
The reader follows Morana, our FMC who is chasing after computer codes that she created and that were stolen, and finds herself tangled with the enemy. She becomes further tangled as the story unfolds, only to realize that life may not be exactly as she grew up understanding.
RuNyx does a great job of building tension between the MMC and the FMC, even after a completely forbidden spicy scene that was π±π₯΅ the tension still grows between these two.
The character development is good in this book, but there are six books in the series, so I wouldn't say you should expect the same character development that would be in a standalone because there's so much more story to go. After Gothikana, I have faith RuNyx will keep developing these characters nicely. There are some underlying questions and plot points about why the MMC is the way he is and why he's determined the FMC to be his to either allow to live or choose to unalive.
The world that RuNyx has started creating in The Predator is simple but still clear and intriguing. She makes the reader feel like they are there with Morana and Tristan and their endeavors. I cannot wait to continue on this journey with them.
