I should have known this book would wreck me emotionally like every other Kristin Hannah book I've ever read. I think I cried through 50% of this damn story. The dust bowl, the great depression, the dirty thirties etc. was a piece of history I knew little about. It was shocking to read how Americans turned on each other and how entire states of people were left to live in poverty doing slave labour just to earn a few pennies for their families to not starve. It was honestly shocking to read about. As usual, Kristen Hannah wrote such a compelling story with so much history weaved in and the most amazing characters that I couldn't put it down. A tough read but one I'll be thinking about for a long time.
