The Poet X by Elizabeth Acevedo
5.0
If you’re able to listen to the audiobook version of The Poet X then please do. It’s such a powerful and energetic performance, three and a half hours of slam poetry about a girl called Xiomara who’s into slam poetry and struggles with the kind of things all teenagers do. But also with things that teenagers shouldn’t struggle with, due to her ethnicity. So much emotion and meaning are fitted into this poetry, and I feel it makes racial issues as well poetry as a form of writing easily accessible and interesting to young people.
