The Mayor of Maxwell Street by Avery Cunningham
3.0
Had been incredibly excited to read this debut, but was pretty disappointed. The premise is interesting and the first few chapters definitely drew me in—no doubt, Cunningham is an excellent writer and has great potential. However, the story dragged (it takes half of the novel for us to reach the protagonists teaming up), the reveal of the Mayor not surprising, and our heroine oft exhausting and inconsistent in her characterization. I struggled with finishing this one and had to rush through the last half of the novel.
