The Teacher by Freida McFadden
4.0
Eve and Nate have a good life. They are married and both teachers at the local high school. It doesn’t matter that life has gotten a little staid and their sex life isn’t what it used to be. But then troubled student Adeline Severson ends up in Eve’s class and she is not thrilled about it. Addie has a bad reputation as a troublemaker and was instrumental in getting Eve’s fellow teacher and friend, Art Tuttle, fired last year. The lives of Eve, Nate and Addie are about to collide with catastrophic results.
This was my first novel by Freida McFadden. I didn’t previously understand the hype about her novels but wow, what a crazy Tilt-a-Whirl ride this was! I would just get over one bombshell when another one would land. The positive: engaging characters, a plot that just keeps the shocking revelations coming, and unreliable characters. The negative: so many shockers that it veers into completely unrealistic territory. In the last quarter of the book, there were so many twists that it’s a wonder my head didn’t swivel around. But I absolutely enjoyed it.
Advisory: the subject matter in this novel deals with adults pursuing sexual relationships with teenagers. I will say that this is never presented by the author as something that is acceptable or excusable, but it is in the content. Knowing that, it is then your choice to read it or not.
