"The days I feel most beautiful are the days I am most afraid."

Beyond the Gender Binary by Alok Vaid-Menon is a tiny book with a lot of power. Alok aims to get us to question the gender Binary and encourages us to be out authentic selves. They seek to educate and dispell myths and logical fallacies in arguments against gender nonconforming people.

As a nonbinary person myself, this little book resonated with me. We constantly feel like we're too much or not enough, but what we really need is for society to accept us and to expand their understanding of gender, not just for us, but for them too. I've been following Alok for awhile now and I just love this spirit and their message.

I'll leave you with a few quotes that stood out to me:

"Self expression sometimes requires other people. Becoming ourselves is a collective journey."

"Arguments against gender nonconforming people are about maintaining power and control."

"Just because an opinion is widely held does not make it right."
