We Used to Live Here by Marcus Kliewer
3.0
This was so promising yet I was left scratching my head.
I’m all for unreliable narrators, but I could not figure out what was happening in this book. Is Thomas good or bad? Is Eve crazy or not? It is being turned into a movie so somebody understood it. I like the premise and the story was relatively easy to read, but definitely very confusing. Queer couple Eve and Charlie by an old house in Oregon and they’re fixing it up when a family that used to live there shows up. Charlie goes missing and Eve is left to deal with a family that won’t leave. Interspersed throughout the story, our police records and other people’s accounts that try and make sense of what is happening but really drives more questions than not in the end. I feel bad for Eve/Emma and Thomas is not to be trusted.
