The Summer That Melted Everything by Tiffany McDaniel
5.0
"I'm the devil. No one tells me when to stay and when to leave. But it sure is nice to be wanted. I tell you, Fielding, it sure is nice to be wanted in this very place."
Eighty-four year old Fielding Bliss will never forget the summer of 1984 when the Devil came to visit his small town, Breathed. The novel follows Fielding as he reminisces on the events of that summer and his life after.
The thing I loved most about this book was its characters, especially the Bliss family. I couldn't help but connect to them and feel their pain. As the story progressed, I was in awe at everything that was happening in this small town. I think Sal was the most interesting character for me. I am still thinking about him and what he really was.
Another thing I loved were the story themes - homosexuality, racism, crowd violence, among others - that we face nowadays in our society. It's frightening to see our society's evolution.
This book is like no other - which is why you should pick it up. I'll be thinking about it for days.
I received this arc via Netgalley in exchanged for an honest review.
