Pretty good! I like the fact that this series is kind of an anthology set within the same universe(s), and I'm happy that we got to explore one of the doorways alluded to in the first book. Fun worldbuilding and character development, and I still enjoyed the plot even though we knew what was going to happen in the end (this book takes places chronologically before the first one). I also liked the exploration of gender roles and the impact that parental expectations can have on children.
While I felt like Every Heart a Doorway was a little rushed, the length of this book was especially prominent. The ending was so fast and I think this could have easily been at least 100 pages longer. On top of that, I think Seanan McGuire's prose doesn't do it for me. I don't know exactly what the problem is besides saying that it feels a little stilted and the dialogue is a little too purple for my liking.
Will definitely continue with this series, makes for a quick, fun audiobook on my commutes to work!
