Je viens de finir Le Comte de Monte Cristo. Encore je veux le relire. What is there to say? This is one of the few novels that is enjoyable from start to finish, which is saying something given how long it is. Not a single chapter is wasted. All of the storylines converged in a way that was interesting and fulfilling. This book has been a part of my life for well over a month now. I have grown attached to Dumas' characters and his writing. I will never be able to listen to the classical pieces from this playlist without thinking of this epic story.

Where is there to go from here? Where can I find a similar fix? These are the most pressing questions upon finishing. I found the ending satisfactory to this incredible tale. A part of me wishes the "epilogue" or so to speak would have been his visit to Chateau d'If instead of saying goodbye to Valentine and Maximilien (which could still have happened first).

I absolutely recommend reading this. Dantes is just too cold (it was 2024/is 2025 and he is the definition of aura. Some might say he is a rizz God, though some might not understand what this entails upon reading this review given a few years). The foreshadowing was done spectacularly, and I would love to reread this having already been introduced to all of the characters. I just need to wait a bit to forget everything that happened (which hopefully won't take too long).

Next time I read this I hope to listen to the audiobook in French. Or maybe to read it in French. I already had to look up plenty of words reading the English translation, so this might not be a good idea lol. Just putting it out there, though. One day. Perhaps if I listen to it every day during my commute to Sesamers I'll be done by the time I finish my internship? Not to mention the plane flights...

This book was a journey. I have so many songs and memories associated with this novel now. I am glad I started reading Boy Swallows Universe at the same time, because if I had to start it afterwards I genuinely don't know how I could (good luck Meenakshi lol).

I am very happy we read this instead of Don Quixote (though I'll certainly read that as well just give it a couple years maybe or months maybe we'll see). When I'm in Paris I will go to see Dumas' house with Candice! I can't wait. If only the Chateau d'If weren't so far south or we could've seen that too.

I have to go to the gym, but I'll likely call w Meenakshi tonight to talk about the ending. Overall incredibly happy with this novel, the experience of reading it, just everything. I thought a novel would have to make me cry for me to be strongly attached, but that seems not to be the case. It's funny that usually I prefer character driven novels (at least I rely on my attachment to the characters to further my attachment to the story), but that wasn't necessary for TCOMC. Of course I really really loved Dantes at the beginning (he reminded me of Arsal/Batman), but with age and experience he became less and less lovable (though more attractive for sure).

I can't wait to watch videos on it while working out. I've had to skip Emmie's videos on the subject in fear of spoilers but now I can finally watch them all without fear 🎊
