Bull Mountain by Brian Panowich

5.0

The cadences in this book made me purr. While originally from rural Arkansas, I spent 15 years of my adult life in northeastern Alabama, and enough time visiting Georgia to feel multiple pangs of familiarity when I read the characters' manner of speaking.

I laughed out loud when someone in the book produced moonshine apple pie because I've HAD that. It's really a thing.

All cultural statements aside, it's a good read. It's well plotted -- though it is possible to predict the ending with some thought, it doesn't detract from the enjoyment. I told my boyfriend last night "It doesn't end in tragedy, nor in comedy, but in the only possible way it COULD have ended, given the characters."

A satisfying read.
