The title seems wild but in this fictional reality, the lore of Lake Lanier is a better-kept secret and owned by the camp’s founding (white) family–the Hudsons. The author was so real for the subtle ways he brought authenticity to the Black characters (e.g. vacation braids) but still adequately touched on railroading, racism, and history in this short read. I would’ve liked a better tie-in to the Atlanta Ripper though. This book was scary in a creepy way but mostly because “Black history reads like a horror novel.”
Graphic: Racism
Moderate: Death, Gore, Violence, Blood, Murder, and Fire/Fire injury
Minor: Mental illness and Police brutality
