Yellowface by R.F. Kuang

5.0

Yellowface is about June, a white novelist struggling to succeed in a diversified publishing industry, who steals and plagiarizes her dead fellow writer's manuscript and rises to become a successful novelist.

Yellowface is a shocking yet incredibly addictive story. The plot is fast-paced and relentless. I didn't know much about the publishing industry before, and this book sheds light on how the modern publishing industry actually works.

The first-person perspective makes sure we stay close to June's POV (a scary place to be!). She's paranoid and defensive, and I often feel like she's trying to manipulate me. The entire time I was reading this book, I kept thinking, "When will she be found out? What happens then?"

Yellowface is well-executed, gripping, enjoyable yet uncomfortable. Highly recommended!
