Zoo Station: The Story of Christiane F. by Christiane F.

Holy shit. This book was so heavy and literally broke my heart. Knowing how young she was and all the things she went through as a baby. Cause that was no teen—she was a baby. The raw honesty of Christiane’s story is gut-wrenching, and it’s impossible not to feel the weight of her pain and desperation as you read. The way she describes her spiral into addiction, the exploitation she faced, and the complete lack of support from the adults who were supposed to protect her is devastating. It’s not just a story about drugs; it’s a story about neglect, survival, and the failure of society to care for its most vulnerable. What makes it even harder is knowing this wasn’t just a fictional tale—it was someone’s real life. This book will stay with me for a long time, and it’s a stark reminder of how easily kids can fall through the cracks when the world turns its back on them.

I also lowkey wonder is this is what inspired Penelope Douglas’s character Christiane Fane.
