Bad Marie by Marcy Dermansky

4.0

After a six-year prison stint, thirty-year-old Marie is working as a nanny for her childhood friend Ellen. She gets along well with Ellen’s two-year-old daughter, Caitlin, and has her eyes set on Ellen’s French novelist husband, Benoît. Without spoiling anything, Marie is a force to be reckoned with. She is uninhibited, cunning, and acts on all her impulses but I still found myself rooting for her. I read this in one sitting and it was a stressful, exhilarating experience. Bad Marie is unexpected, dark, and highly entertaining.
