Trapped by Clocks and Hearts is an Alice in Wonderland retelling and one of ten books in the Enemies Ever After series. It is a rather unique take on AIW though also quite what you'd expect from a retelling of AIW.
We follow Rabb, a sorcerer, and Allie, who arrived in the land of Wünder without any recollection of how she got there or who she is.
I'm really conflicted about this review. For me, the start of the book was quite difficult to get in to. But the story itself is intriguing enough to want to keep going and I am also curious to find out what will happen to Allie.
The world-building is far too extensive to my liking. There are an enormous amount of details, which leave little room for my own imagination. That being said, you do get to know alot about Wünder and its inhabitants.
There is a very slow burn romance between Rabb and Allie. My favorite by far is Chez, who is really likeable and gives the story a nice touch of (dry) humor. Second are Allie and the Duchess, Allie because she is a scientist, and ever curious, and the Duchess because she is down to earth and just really likeable.
Trapped by clocks and hearts is a fast paced enemies to lovers retelling with a sorcerer MMC and a scientist FMC. It brings a unique take on Alice in Wonderland, has magic and a slow burn romance, action and found family vibes.
Thanks to the author S.L. Luck for giving me the opportunity to read this ARC. I read this book as an ARC reader, my opinions are my own and my review is voluntarily.
