The Children of Gods and Fighting Men by Shauna Lawless

I am most definitely in my Viking era and this ticked every box that I’m looking for at the moment. It hooked me from the very first page and didn’t let me go. I was expecting many more fantasy elements, based on the synopsis, but there were times where I forgot that it was fantasy. This is by no means a criticism as I was enthralled by the Irish history, but just something to be aware of going in.

I loved how easy it was to differentiate between the two points of view and I was interested in both of them, which isn’t always the case. Gormflaith gave off huge Cersei Lannister vibes and Fodla made it very easy to understand and empathise with her and her actions.

It was the setting that won me over mostly, I have added many similar books to my list and I’ll be picking up the sequel in the next week or so. Highly recommend, this deserves so much more hype.
