How can you get your reading year off to a good start? By reading Chasing the Wild by Elliott Rose.
The fact that the MMC is the father of the FMC ex-boyfriend was a bit of a departure from what I usually like to read. I often find it hard to rationalise, especially when the parent is very critical of their child (hello childhood trauma). However, I was able to overlook this fact as I quickly got hooked on the author’s writing style and all I wanted to do was read this book from cover to cover.
I really liked Layla’s character, but I found it much harder to like Colton. Of course, he’s the perfect embodiment of the grumpy cowboy who’s lived in the mountains for far too long, but I had trouble with his alphahole attitude towards Layla. I struggled to find any redeeming qualities in his flaws, but that’s just me.
However, that won’t stop me from reading the second book in the series, Braving the Storm.
