Bougainvillea Ringplay by Marion Bethel

challenging dark emotional funny hopeful lighthearted reflective tense medium-paced

5.0

Bougainvillea Ringplay is distinctly Bahamian. The grammar and flow of the prose leaves you wanting to read more. As the preview says, Bethel use of language evokes the words to take its most literal form in your mind. As I was reading I could imagine myself in certain situations, I could taste the food being described; Bethel is a master at wordplay. Not only would this appeal to Bahamians and poetry lovers but to readers at large; there was not one piece in here that I did not like, all of it was masterfully crafted. Bethel transported me back home for the time that I read this, I tried to savour Bougainvillea Ringplay by taking it a few pages at a time. I would not mind reading it again before the year ends.
