I have a hard time with realistic books that where the main character does something so out of pocket or anxiety inducing. So in the very beginning of the book, when she paid $20k to redo a motel room. It almost stopped me in my tracks. I am glad I pushed through though because I really liked the book.
The main character seems so “weird” but as relatively mundane as I feel, I still feel like I don’t fully show myself to anyone. Like, I am a deck of cards and each person is allowed to see a couple of them, but no one sees the whole deck. So I understand her want to be her full authentic self. But it also makes me cringe. I’m sure that’s because of society or some such.
