Twisted Tales by Deborah A Stansil

5.0

The book has a fun introduction, which I really enjoyed. I’m also a fan of any book that I can pick up while I have a five-minute break and make some actual progress. Given that the tales are mostly very short, I was able to read the whole book during my lunch and short breaks at work.

In “Done Deal,” I had guessed the first twist, but not the second. “Gaze” reminded me of the suspense of the film “The Hand that Rocks the Cradle.” Stories like these are what make it a good horror book in that the “monsters” and horrific situations could happen. I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys horror/ thrillers. I do enjoy this genre, though I don’t read it as often as I’d like. It was chilling, scary, haunting, entertaining, and had plot twists. I’d read another from this author. This is the first book in a series, but it does stand alone.

As far as errors go, I only saw two (went should be when, hi should be him). I had heard that apostrophes could be used as speech or quotation marks, but this was the first time I’ve ever encountered it. There was one story which briefly mentioned child molestation, which might trigger some readers. I was given a free copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. The author and I do not know each other, but have both participated in the A to Z blogging challenge.

Two of my favorite lines:
“I kill your dreams and extinguish your spark.”
“Like you had zero compassion for me the night you cut in front of me in line at the supermarket and I missed the last bus. Revenge is sweet…”
