All the Ugly and Wonderful Things by Bryn Greenwood
5.0
This book made me feel soooo many emotions. If you aren't familiar with this book, there are some really hard topics: drug use/production; a taboo relationship between a man, Kellen, and a young girl/young woman, Wavy; and unfit parenting due to drugs/drinking; child abuse; child endangerment, etc. Tough stuff!! But I loved every minute of reading this book and it's one of the few books I've read so far that makes me want to turn right around and read it again even after finishing it today.
Wavy and her brother Donel live a very tough life with parents who are drugged up or drunk or using those things to (not) cope with life and their responsibilities. But one day, Kellen has a motorcycle accident and Wavy goes to get help for him. Kellen cares for Wavy in ways her parents are not: emotional support, getting her to school, and just plain old loving her. They form a bond that not many understand.
This whole book ripped my heart out....the ugly things....and the wonderful things.
