For me, there is simply nothing more all-consuming and squeal-inducing than a really good fantasy romance book, and this is a really good fantasy romance book. I couldn’t put it down for so many reasons: dragons !!!! Absolute badass female heroine with an autoimmune disease / chronic illness who defies every expectation of those around her (the author does a phenomenal job of showing how accommodations are simply a basic human right) !!! Magic that at least somewhat makes sense !! The swooniest male hero !!! One of the best enemies to lovers plot lines I’ve read in a long time ! Sex scenes that are steamy and not remotely cringe worthy ! The clearest communication I’ve maybe ever read in any book, let alone a fantasy romance ! A world that makes sense ! Revelations galore ! Breakneck action !! I also loved that the characters are in their 20s and not outrageously young for what they’re doing (I’m a bit tired of the fantasy romance trope of the centuries-old man teaching a young ingenue about sex and magic etc). This world is so fun to live in, and I can’t wait for the next book to come out in November. If you remotely like fantasy romance, run don’t walk to this one.
